Problem
The existing legacy Risk Maturity Model Assessments application lacked customization and functionality in its survey questions and response types, resulting in data that failed to tell the full story and left gaps.
KPMG leaders could only gather general yes-or-no responses to assess risk associated with engagements. However, the system's limited functionality in question types, response options, and data processing created a barrier. While it provided some data, the gaps in understanding hindered a comprehensive view of the risk landscape.
Goal
The goal of redesigning the legacy Risk Maturity Model Assessments system was to modernize both its visual design and functionality.
Collaborating with project managers and designers, our goal was to enhance administrative workflows, providing greater flexibility in creating, editing, and viewing assessment templates. We also aimed to expand options for question types, response structures, and scoring criteria to enable more customized assessments. By improving functionality and modernizing the system's branding, we sought to offer a comprehensive view of the data, helping KPMG leaders better assess the risk maturity of current and future client engagements.

Reflection
I learned how crucial flexibility and customization are for effective data collection and analysis.
The limitations of the legacy system underscored the need for user-friendly, adaptable tools. Our goal to modernize both functionality and branding taught me how design directly impacts decision-making. By improving administrative workflows and expanding customization options, I realized that empowering users with more control leads to better insights and more informed decisions. This project reinforced the value of addressing both functional and aesthetic needs to create a system that can evolve with future demands.
